Job Description Summary
The Environmental Innovations Initiative (EII) is seeking a communications-savvy student to create engaging content for its social media platforms and contribute to the office’s overall social media strategy. Housed in the Office of the Provost, EII brings together researchers, scholars, and students to develop new ideas and innovative solutions for our global environment. The Social Media Assistant will perform tasks such as strategizing a social media plan, developing text and image content, scheduling posts, monitoring comments, and tracking and analyzing metrics. Availability of ten hours per week with at least one hour during business hours each weekday is a requirement for this hybrid position.
Job Description:
Reporting to the Associate Director, the Social Media Assistant’s core responsibilities include crafting a social media plan and developing content that will enhance the visibility of EII at Penn and among climate change-related organizations in higher ed and industry.
The social media assistant will:
- Perform an overall assessment of EII’s existing social media efforts and work with the Associate Director to create a new social media plan that will raise the visibility of EII and environmental research and education at Penn, increasing followers and engagement.
- Build a style template for EII social media that meets Penn brand standards.
- Build an asset library of logos and images for use on all platforms.
- Plan posts for the month ahead, focusing on EII events and news, and that of relevant Penn groups and individuals.
- Attend EII and Penn events to take photos and post day-of content as needed.
- Enter all content into Sprout Social as drafts for review by the Associate Director.
- Monitor social media comments and engagement and respond as directed by EII Associate Director and Director.
- Participate in launch of a new BlueSky account.
- Track general monthly and specific campaign metrics and use this information to make recommendations for future content.

Skills and qualifications:
- Demonstrated excellence in social media content creation and analytics.
- Photography experience necessary. Our goal is scroll-stopping photography.
- Experience in Canva and Sprout Social a plus.
- Student must be available at least one hour each day 9-5, M-F to respond to day-of social media posting and requests. Same-day turnaround is needed and expected for timely social media content. For the remainder of the 10 hours per week, the student may work outside of business hours.
