Associate Director for Outreach and Advancement

Reporting to the Senior Director, the Associate Director for Outreach and Advancement is responsible for developing and delivering on a set of outputs designed to enhance the visibility of the Initiative, elevate Penn’s collective impact, and position the Initiative to grow through partnerships and fundraising. The Initiative’s team is highly collaborative, so this work provides ample opportunity to lead and to share work.

Student Visibility Team

We are creating a dynamic team of students to help develop fresh, intriguing, and eye-catching content for our website, outreach, and social media. Last semester, we launched a new website and now we are ramping up our content generation. Reporting to the Senior Director and the Program Manager, the Visibility Team will write news items, develop and execute a social media strategy, and help to establish the writing and editing processes for new content types such as Explainers. Additional responsibilities may include supporting our monthly newsletters, collaborating on infographics, and supporting general writing and editing for the Initiative as it grows.

This position is open to undergraduate and graduate students. Interested students should submit a cover letter, resume, and a writing sample along with their official application through Workday.

Research Assistant – Mercury @ Penn: Dentistry

The mission of Environmental Innovations Initiative is to catalyze solutions to significant real-world environmental challenges. Reporting to the PI, the research assistant will be responsible for conducting a literature review to put in perspective the impact of dental mercury on the environment. Identify the implications of dental mercury in the environment for public and community health. Generate an estimate of mercury quantities and flows related to dentistry. This position is open to undergraduate and graduate students.

Research Assistant – Mercury @ Penn: Waterflows

The mission of Environmental Innovations Initiative is to catalyze solutions to significant real-world environmental challenges. Reporting to the PI, the research assistant will be responsible for creating a mercury inventory based on high-resolution observational data from Philadelphia waterbodies. Tasks may include, measuring the concentrations and speciation of Hg and identify potential sources and sinks of Hg in the Schuylkill River.
