Cobbs Creek Cleanup

Penn Sustainability invites students, staff, and faculty to join a community clean-up of Cobbs Creek.

January 27, 9:00am-12:00pm, 2024

On Saturday, January 27, from 9-11 a.m., Penn Sustainability invites students, staff, and faculty to join a community clean-up of Cobbs Creek. Transportation to and from the clean-up location and coffee and snacks will be provided.

Communities along Cobbs Creek in West Philadelphia have endured some of the watershed’s heaviest burdens of environmental injustice. Access to the creek is inhibited by a lack of public amenities and its adjacent low-income communities of color endure frequent flooding by polluted stormwater. The Water Center at Penn is working with the Cobbs Creek Community Environmental Education Center and partners to build a state-of-the-art educational facility to support community members in safely connecting with their environment and offer STEM learning opportunities to youth and community members. Read more about the initiative here.

Neighbors of the creek have long been the environmental champions of environmental stewardship. In this cleanup, we will be joining the Cobbs Creek Community Ambassadors, who coordinate grassroots initiatives to keep the creek and surrounding environment free of litter and pollution. Register here.
