Seeds of Change Kick-off: Eco-Science Social

As a living hub for ongoing dialogue, connection, and activism, the Penn Museum presents Seeds of Change, a new series of programs intended to spark curiosity, share facts, and inspire action around some of the most pressing issues of our time.

April 26, 5:00-9:30pm, 2023

We’re not going to soften it—the news about climate change is not a problem for the future. It’s happening here and now, affecting billions of people across the earth. But there are solutions, sometimes from unexpected places, and you can be a part of it.

One of a three-part series, Eco-Science Social is an after-hours get-together where you can open your mind and make a difference while connecting with experts and communities. During the event, taking place on Wednesday April 26 from 5:00 - 9:00 pm, you will be able to:

  • Access facts and hear innovative ideas from leading experts on climate change

  • Learn more about sustainable practices

  • Connect with local climate change groups

  • Enjoy zero-food-waste snacks and drinks (the first drink's on us).

Make sure to listen to the Climate Change talks, 20-minute presentations by our leadership team and some our fellows at the following times:

  • The development of elite cuisines in Southern India by Kathleen D. Morrison, Ph.D (Faculty Co-Lead) | 5:30 pm - 5:50 pm

  • Research in the Arctic: the front line of climate change by Jon Hawkings, Ph.D (Inaugural Faculty Fellow in the Environmental Innovations Initiative from SAS) | 6:30 - 6:50 pm

  • A Novel Way to Approach Climate Crisis by Barri J. Gold, Ph.D (Inaugural Senior Fellow in the Environmental Innovations Initiative from SAS) | 7:00 - 7:15 pm

As a meaningful finalé, hear a presentation about reconnecting with the earth from Joy Harjo, internationally renowned performer and writer of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation and the first Native American named United States Poet Laureate.
