Join the Penn Sustainability Office, the Environmental Innovations Initiative, and the Netter Center for Community Partnerships on Tuesday, January 21st from 10:00 – 11:00AM for a virtual panel spotlighting faculty and community collaborators advancing equity and environmental justice in Philadelphia. In the featured Academically Based Community Service (ABCS) courses, Penn faculty and students partner with community leaders to reconstruct lost African American burial landscapes in the Greater Philadelphia region and support equitable economic revitalization of a Kensington corridor.
Panelists Ms. Bertha Jackmon (Mt. Zion AME Church in Devon), Dr. Jason Herrmann (College of Arts and Sciences), Ms. Jasmin Velez (Kensington Corridor Trust) and Dr. Lisa Servon (Weitzman School of Design) will share their experiences with these initiatives and valuable perspectives on university-community partnerships that seek to redress historical inequities. Attendees will gain an expanded definition of environmental justice and insights into the opportunities and considerations involved in university-community collaborations.
Jazmin Ricks, Senior Research Coordinator at The Water Center at Penn, will be moderating.
This event is a part of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Symposium on Social Change.
