Penn faculty gather to build collaborations on extreme heat
Last week the Environmental Innovations Initiative (EII) hosted a Penn Action CAFE (Convene, Accelerate, Foster, and Expand) workshop focused on extreme heat challenges and solutions. The aim was to spark new collaborations with and to study and mitigate extreme heat effects due to climate change. More than 30 scholars from different disciplines connected in insightful discussions.
Many faculty around the University are already working on projects related to studying the health impacts of extreme heat. Others have been developing technologies and other strategies to mitigate its effects, including many who focus on communities in or near Philadelphia. In an effort to build on this momentum, EII gathered these in one room to discuss synergies and overlapping interests. The ultimate goal is to spark new collaborations and perhaps even specific transdisciplinary grant proposals related to extreme heat.
To continue to support these connections, EII developed a booklet detailing the individuals who work on extreme heat or are interested in building collaborations in the future, along with their scholarly background and relevant grant opportunities: view it here.
In the coming months, EII will continue to develop opportunities to convene researchers around particular questions and opportunities. If you’re interested in being a part of these efforts, write us at contact@environment.upenn.edu.
